I feel the need to take a moment to talk about the fantastic job Intelligent Systems did with Tellius’ pegasus knight outfits.
In more or less every other game, pegasus knights wear miniskirts, and often have bare thighs. They also ride pegasi; I don’t think I need to point out the issue here. Apparently someone finally said yo, why don’t we give these poor ladies some pants? and so they did.
The designers also did something neat by giving them what essentially are long tunics! This makes so much more sense and still provides a sense of unity because the outfits are skirtlike.
Tanith and Marcia have short hair and Elincia puts hers up! Logic!
Any deviation from real-world armor makes perfect sense in the context of the game. Pegasus knights are meant to be fast and mobile, but have low defense, and it’s believable that a pegasus wouldn’t be able to lift as much as a horse since they have to stay in the air, so some — but not full — armor and what is presumably some kind of heavy cloth.
There’s stylization and it isn’t meant for sex appeal, which is a great deviation from a lot of fictional women’s overly sexy battle outfits that people brush off as an innocent attempt at creating something fashionable or “well of course fantasy is unrealistic!!” Cool capes! Different color schemes! Marcia’s cute little belt! (The thigh-high boot thing is arguably probably to be sexy, but I can still buy it in the context of wanting something that looks protective but would still be lighter than armor and as a reference to previous games.)
